Get ready for wild learning and play! Preschool Zoo is designed for ages 3–5 and their caregivers to explore animals through stories, hands-on activities, crafts, and mini zoo tours led by Zoo Boise educators. Each series meets three timeson Tuesdays and Saturdays with a different lineup of animals each month this winter/spring.

Perfect for homeschool families, Homeschool Zoo offers weekly classroom lessons, animal encounters, labs, and guided zoo tours that align with Idaho science standards. Sessions are grouped by age/grade so kids learn with peers while exploring real animal science.

The Jim Hall Foothills Learning Center (City of Boise Parks & Recreation) connects the community with nature through seasonal classes, hands-on workshops, and guided experiences that celebrate the foothills environment. In January and beyond, adults and families can join nature-based adult classes and workshops like folk art and traditional craft series (e.g., milkweed cordage or spoon carving), Explore Nature sessions for adults with young children, and other outdoor learning opportunities focused on local plants, ecology, and natural skills. Programs are offered throughout the year and often include both outdoor time and classroom components.

The Idaho State Museum hosts monthly Homeschool Days where learners of all ages can explore Idaho’s history through hands-on activities, gallery exploration, and themed classroom experiences with discounted rates for children and caregivers. These take place on select dates, typically from 10 am–3 pm, and preregistration is required

January Events (Nampa, ID)
Beyond the Books offers community and enrichment events for homeschool families and kids. In January 2026, they’re hosting Mom’s Night Out on Thursday, January 15 (6:30–8:30 PM)—a relaxed meetup with creative, laid-back activities for adults to connect—and Beginning Woodworking for Kids on Friday, January 16 (6:15–7:15 PM), a hands-on class introducing kids (ages ~8–17) to basic tools and project building.
